K Bass!
It's summer and summer is bass season, even in Korea. Soboro, Ksanchun, I went out fishing for Korean Largemouth at DaeHonMan harbor in Western Sea. We’ve never been to DaeHonMan harbor so EnNue guided us and set up the reservations with boats and all. We met her at 3am and we were at the waters edge by 5:30am. We hit the convenience store for a some cup ramen and by 6am we were in the small boats with the trolling motors on them. The boat rental guy looked at our rods & gear and said – "not sure how you’ll do with fly gear here…" I threw a popper into he water and in matter of about 5 minutes, caught 3 good sized bass right from where we were standing. He said nothing more after that, just told us the boats were ready. I took the boat with Soboro and Ksanchun took the boat with EnNue. We expected some rain this day, but it turned out to be a short & hard summer shower. We were catching fish with almost every cast and although we failed to catch the really big mama, we did okay with catching a lot of small & medium sized fish. We lost count of how many fish by 8am, and after a lot of fish we looked at our watches and saw that it was not yet 9am. Some happy high fives followed. We fished till slightly after lunch, basically until we felt that we had caught enough fish. As Soboro usually does when we’re fishing the creeks, he was giving me a lot of pressure to throw the fly a little further into the weeds. He was throwing that popper pretty far and was landing a lot of fish. We took turns driving the boat into super weedy areas so the other can focus on fishing. I love fishing for different fish during different seasons. I think I’ll be back here for some autumn bass for sure.

Very nice!!! I miss fishing for bass in lakes. I might take my kayak out this weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy first Bass experience was much greater than I expected. As Gone Fishing repeated mentioned, I should've gone out for fishing beyond cherry trouts and lenoks. Thanks for the awesome time, GF and Ksanchun!
ReplyDeleteYou are a true natural no matter what kind of species of fish.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great time. Didn’t expect much, but the result was awesome. It also was first bass fishing on the boat for me and relaxation of gliding on the water early in the summer morning with a small battery powered propeller was unforgettable.
