The Northeast region is going through typical summer fishing condition. A few heatwaves went by recently which prevented me from fishing and finally I am blessed with low 80 degree temperature for the weekend. Broke many state speed limit law on the way to the creek.
Low and jin clear water made my back paid for it today.
Surprised to find this big brookie in somewhat shallow pool. Must been hungry as it went after my fly with vengeance.
The rod in the background is a new addition to my bamboo collection. It is a 2wt rod with very slow action which I will need alot of practice... Fighting this brown with the rod was a blast.
It is great size fish for your 2WT rod. I also recently was very interest of checking out slow flex rod like glass or bamboo for small creek fishing. I also heard that even graphite rod manufacturers are planning to put out slower rods.
ReplyDeleteksanchun, the video link Lee posted about Sage Circa might be something you should look into as it looks like a great rod for someone like you.
ReplyDeleteI know, I am aware of that rod. I will soon checking it out and let you know.
ReplyDeleteFF~ those are some sweet catches in what looks to like a creek near perfection. I went Out on sunday here but with all the rain, the water had turned mud colored so we gave up. We still have some rain due but things should return to good conditions soon. I guess you're really liking the bamboo action, I can't wait to try one oit myself. If you ever give me one, please let it be one that you built. I can carry along with the landing net you built.
ReplyDeleteBTW - my friend Jay's dad passed away over the weekend. We're still here at the 3 day funeral.
GF, please send my condolences for Jay and his family.
ReplyDeleteI started to like bamboo rod for small creeks but you can't beat the overall graphite performances when compared.
build me a bamboo rod... you crazy...
ReplyDeletewhat weight do you want?
I'd love to hear your suggestion - you know the type of small creek fishing I (we) like. If I do get a bamboo - would you suggest a 2-3wt? I'm going buy one here (the one you suggest) and I can continue to persuade you on building me another one. 나도 여기 특이하고 좋은 제품들 있는지 살펴볼께.
ReplyDeleteGF, Knowing your fishing style and considering your fishing grounds, I would suggest 7' 3weight rod. I think such setup will allow you to roll over nymphs when necessary. I can't promise you it will be done anytime soon but I will inform you once I start the project.
ReplyDeletebeautiful brown! are you only fishing dries with the rod?
ReplyDeleteFor now yes cause dries work but I'm sure I will use nymphs when needed.
