We have seen some of the MIT developed pollution sniffing fish. Perhaps taking inspiration from there, a group of Korean scientists have developed a robotic fish intended to focus on sniffing out pollution in the rivers in Korea. The team, led by Dr. Ryuh Young-sun at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, unveiled the 42 cm-long, 1.32 kg device in an aquarium at BEXCO. The scientists operated the robotic fish by remote control. It was given the name "Ichthys," the Greek word for fish. Ichthys can swim for four hours on one charge and can withstand pressure to a depth of 100 m. The fish has been equipped with a GPS device which allows it to find locations for recharging.
Now the scary thing is the Korean president on recent debate session on national TV, hinted they will pursue this. He even joked that this fish will not take bait.
Which makes me wonder... how long will it be before we see a sport version of this? Someone will build a RF emitting fly that will catch one of these fish… perhaps me.
