Korean Fly Shops Series # 2. Big Waters

Last week, I had a chance to visit Spider Fly (http://www.spiderfly.co.kr) likely the largest & most complete fly shop in Seoul, and probably Korea. Spider Fly is located in the eastern part of Seoul (seems most of the fishing shops are located in the edge of Seoul & Hanam), situated on the 2nd floor in a spacious shop. Upon entering the shop, it’s obvious that it is a fully stocked shop with plenty of tying materials & all related fly gears. Spider Fly represents many brands but it is a prime distributer for Guideline (www.guidelineflyfish.com) and in general seems to carry mainly premium European brands (Snowbee, Hardy, Loop).

What makes Spider Fly special among the handful of fly shops in Korea is that it has a strong following with fly anglers that chase bigger fish in bigger waters. If you want to catch big fish, you hang out at Spider Fly. Also they specialize in two handed spey rods and guides clients in appropriate waters. The Spider Fly staff is both inviting and knowledgeable, and it was refreshing to meet Spider Fly which is change from the many bullshit clubs that think they are part of this exclusive premium club. Spider staff are friendly, know what they are talking about, and seems focused on catching big fish. I spent couple of hours chatting with the staff and looking around the store. They helped me get hooked up with some snowbee line, and it casts like silk….smoother than any line I have experienced. Thanks. I look forward to heading out to fish with Spider Fly very soon, and hopefully hooking up with some bigger fish in Korea.

Here are some photos of the shop and evidence of bigger fish from Spider Fly website. If you go to Korea for any reasons, bring a fly rod and make a reservation with Spider Fly. Open all year round and with fish to be caught all year too.
