I always knew there was good sized following of general carp anglers in Korea, but didn’t know there was such a big community of fly carp anglers. Of the few times I went carp fishing on fly, I found it to be extremely difficult, especially the “educated” carps. I’ve heard stories that carp has a memory of few years, and they’ll remember a fly vs. food. But then again I mentioned this to Charles the Fish Finder and he replied “they are fish, they have brains size of peanuts, go catch some carp”.
Yoonho, some experts say carp has a memory of about 5 years. And in Taiwan, you really can see carp distinguishs the real toast from artificial fly. Carp has the ability to learn, believe it!!! And carp can be educated!!! Next time you come to Taipei, we can show you how educated carp smart is.
STOOOOP IT GUYS. I can back up with researched material that my statement of carp being just fish you know. As much as we would like to believe that all trout are elusive and bonefish are mysterious so that we can feel good about ourselves when we catch them, carp do not have the memory span of 5years old, only thing that matter is let's hope that we are smarter than them so we can keep on catching them.
By the way Hank, do not take me or my statement too seriously. Yoonho and I do this all the time.
Now that you are in it, next time smear your toast fly with real toast before casting to a carp. Maybe smell has something to do with carp not taking it. Hmmmm...
I swear, I caught a carp once and it's eyes looked like it remembered me... then when I got a little closer, I could see it's mouth moving as if it was talking. I put my ear close to it's mouth and THEN, I COULD HEAR HIM TALKING! It said to me "yo-go home and stop fooling us with this toast fly, and put my ass back in the water right now.." I fainted and when I woke up, I found myself lying by the river bed, my fly broken in half. I was also naked and 5 years older. ;-)
