Went out lenok fishing with Soboro & Mrlee. Unfortunately, a thousand vacationers had the same idea of going out to the stream. Still we managed to find a few fish here and there. I slipped and dove into the water more than twice this day. Got the camera back up running, but I left it in the car to dry out after the first spill so not many photos. It was hot, populated, and still worth it. It was Soboro's first time out this year, he tells me he's been busy drinking and golfing. He still had the touch, caught the most fish all day.
8/10/2011 - Fortunately, while I was busy falling into the water, Eunu kept her camera dry and continued to take some photos. She sent me some pictures from her camera.

ReplyDeleteGolfing and drinking...we should call him 아저씨 from now on.
ReplyDeletemrlee, if we do go, which week is best for you? We'll probably spend a few days there but maybe you can join us for a day or two? Dont want to take you away too long from your family time. You can then point us in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteSoboro always has been 아저씨. It looks like you guys had a great trip. Even without much more photos, I can totally imagine what kind of good time you guys had.
ReplyDeletecome anytime between the fifth and the twenty second. obviously weekdays are beter than weekends. let me know well in advance so I can book some private big fish water for us. we'l also hit some high mountain creeks. I will show you some really great fishing. if you can make a few week days I have all the time we need.

ReplyDeleteGreetings, I will be in Soeul for a couple weeks beginning 15 August. Could you guys recommend a good guide for me? I would be after whatever species offers best action for the season - warm or cold water. thanks, John
ReplyDeleteJosh - I have not been to goseon gyegok, but I will ask people that went.
ReplyDeleteJohn, there are a few shops that provide fishing guide service. The shop we are close with is called Rainbow Fly Shop (http://www.rainbowfly.co.kr). There are two kinds of guide service, one is individual guide, similar to guide service in the US (approx $350) and the other is the group guide service ($100). The group on is shared trip with 4 other people. The van drops you off in different spots and picks you up. The owner and head guide at Rainbow is a lady and her English is very limited. However, she knows the creeks really well and is very experienced. Her email is (flyfisher119@hotmail.com)
ReplyDeleteThe other shop/ guide to check is (http://www.princefly.co.kr). Mr Park is great with English and is another experienced person to fish with. This site has an English page so you should be able to navigate through it.
Unfortunately, I'll be leaving Korea on the 14th,otherwise I would have organized a trip. Bring light rods (2-4wt) and the standard trout flies. You can ask about bass trips here, although I would recommend you take the opportunity to see the creeks here. Later in the month should be better as the vacationers will start to wind down.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Josh I second the info from GF. I would go out with you if i could but cannot make anymore fishing time this month. Go with Eun Nu if you can. For a hundred bucks its almost the best fishing deal in the world. transportation and three delicious meals and you dont have to worry about driving or traffic just nap out in the van.
ReplyDeleteGone fishing...
ReplyDeleteThanks for trying to find out for me. I think about this stream all the time and am worried that its lenok have been lost....
Now that the vacationers are starting to fade, I hope that you are finding some solitude and a tightline.
It was a great trip. In fact, every trip to gangwondo is good, for I always go with good friends. Thanks, mrlee and gone fishing.
ReplyDeleteJosh - a friend said she visited the Goseon Gyegokin mid July and the creek is not affected by the 4 Rivers project (at least not directly in the literal sense). The creek however was damaged from the recent heavy rains, with some sections suffering from landslides. There was a big debate last year about the villagers in the upper creek wanting better paved roads, and the people concerned with the environmental effects from such constructions. The river is recovering from the landslides but other than that, things seems to be in order. Without doubt, the 4 rivers project will have huge damaging effects in all the rivers and creeks for sure.
