Creek Addict

I got up early saturday with aching back. Didn't take long to decide to continue on exploring lesser-known Catskills creeks. Made sure I had the map with potential fishing ground highlighted and off I went.

I wanted to explore some of the tributary water which supply the neversink reservoir. As I hoped, no one is to be seen when I got to the creeks.

As I started fishing for brookies, I realize that it was easier than the last time. They weren't being picky at all with my selection of flies. As long as dead drift is achieved, they gladly took my flies. I thought this contradicts all the things I've read about wild brookies but I wasn't complaining.

After the trip, I got on-line to see why those brookies were so easy to catch. It turned out that high altitude catskill creeks contain high level of PH which limits bug hatches. Hence, those brookies will take anything they can get their tiny teeth on. Also the fact that those waters are not being pressured by anglers allowed me to feel like I knew what I was doing.

Anyway, I think I will be enjoying these lovely creeks for years to come.

  1. With creeks & fish as beautiful as they are, how can one not become an addict. That is some good looking creeks there. You got a Montana trip coming up, remember to keep your back ready for that. I arrived in the midwest and looking forward to some creek action myself here.

  2. I love the creek also. Sometimes it is a little scarily to be alone in the dark creek, but it gets truely worth it after finishing that trip. Each creek has it's own character some you can walk, some you hardly can walk becasue of the large rock and water. I love it!

  3. Yes it can get scary! During this trip, while I stood still and admiring a deer in front of me, a tree branch snapped behind me and plunged into the water with a loud splash. I wet myself...

  6. (Hot summer special)Especially, in Korea you don't want to run into woman with white color traditional funeral clothing in the creek. You will really get wet. The old story said yhey have nine tails and change to human to get close to you then they will ea...you. If you ever run into that woman, just act like you didn't see and walk away while waving your fishing rod.
