I had a chance to fish this weekend with Steven from Hong
Kong. Right off the bat, I can tell he
was a serious fly fisherman with his bazooka rod carrier and "let's
fish" look in his eyes. I've been
in touch with Steven for long time but this was the first time to fish
together, in fact it was the first time we met in person. He came straight to Jonathan's shop from the
airport and after some soju, we were on our way to Kangwondo. Steven is from New Jersey and has been for
over 20 years since his childhood. Like
Charles, he was familiar and used to the small creek fishing, throwing casts
into tight spots and finding fish in difficult situations. He is an excellent fly fisherman, and I
learned some just watching him fish. We
talked about everything from Asian drinking craziness to all the places we
fished in the past, and even talked about some future places we should meet up to
fish together. It was a great couple of
days with Steven and Jonathan, good
food, good friend, and of good fishing.
The fall in Korea is a beautiful time of the year, and I can tell we
were couple of weeks away from full fall colors. I'll remember this trip for a long time for
all that good stuff but also because we saw a pretty hot girl fishing all by
herself in the middle of the night on a bridge. I still can't figure out what she was doing
there, but she looked like she knew what she was doing and gave us that
"yes I'm hot and I'm fishing here at night - now get those eyes off
me" look as all three of us stared at her in amazement.
It's kind of like seeing a beautiful fish in the creek and you just can't
believe it's there right in front of you. Something to remember.
Thanks for visiting Steven and let's stay in touch.
looks awesome! wish I could have joined you guys. Maybe next time. Nice bow Steven!

ReplyDeleteSteven, it was great meeting you. Let's stay in touch and hook up again soon. I just got back from a day of meetings in HK and understood what you meant by having nice cold air. It was a little warm still.
