Friday

flying fish.

These beautiful creatures sits up there with unicorns in terms of how mystical they are. I am not sure why they actually fly, but they are amazing. There are some amazing footage of long flights on youtube. check them out.

jumbo sized flies…I like them.

There’s something about big flies that is very beautiful. The thought of catching big pike & bass, the way these flies will swim in the water, and the pure elegance of its aesthetic. I am learning how to tie these jumbo sized flies, and can’t wait to get out on the water with them in spring.

Thursday

box full of caddis.

I have to say, caddis is my go to fly for most situations. I am on a mission to tie 500 caddis before season fully kicks in.

year of the Tiger...tiger trout.

As this is the year of the Tiger, I will need to make sure I get somewhere to catch one of these Tiger Trouts. I even found a web site dedicated to these prize fish (http://tigertroutfishing.com/)

good people writing great books.

I am always very happy to discover books like these & to read about the people who write them. These are specialized books for a very small reader base, especially in a place like Korea. I admire the writers who labor through the writing & research, bear the burden of knowing that commercial success in not in the horizon (from the start), and yet continue on and put out books like this. They know that a small group of people out there will appreciate this greatly, people like me. Thank you.

Fresh Water Fish of Geum River, Korea – author: Young Mok, Sohn & Ho Bok, Song.

deep freeze in seoul

It's been 10 years since it was this cold in Seoul.

Wednesday

easy on the eyes.

I saw this pattern in a fly tying magazine and it was just what I needed. I can’t wait to try it out.

Tuesday

buddy's fur into flies.

I suspect we’ve all done it once or twice in our fly tying days... tying pet fur into flies. Since I don’t have a dog, I visited my friend Mike today to see his dog. We had a few friends there who doesn’t fish, and when they saw me collect Buddy’s (Mike’s dog) fur into a plastic bag – I had some explaining to do. Mike thought it was agreat idea and tried to convince me to pick up all the fur on the carpet. I brought som home, tied a few flies. Done.

my porcelain fish

Here's a water container (for calligraphy) made of porcelain. A gift from my friend.

I see fish everywhere...(again 3)

Even the fish in the market looks different to me after I got into fishing. I look at them closer than ever. Minus the octopus leg, that just looks tasty – with a little 고추장.

Trout & Grouse - the finest.

I had a chance to visit Trout & Grouse in Northfield, Illinois (www.troutandgrouse.com) and speak with Tyler & Curt. I’ll sum it up this way - if you want to see an example of a what a successful full service fly shop looks like, Trout & Grouse is the place to visit. They are one of the oldest shops in the US (founded in 1976) and offer everything you can imagine & need for fly fishing & wingshooting. The staff there are highly knowledgeable, friendly, and can guide you through whatever you need. Check out their wed site for more information & shopping on great line of products. Trout & Grouse is certainly one of the finest fly shops I have ever been to.

Monday

I see fish everywhere...(again 2)

I went to the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago… and saw fish on the Italian Christmas tree. Unexpected nice surprise.

Thanks to my friend for making flies for me in hurry!

When I was about to go to my honeymoon to one of the Southeast Asian Island, my friend angler made me a few saltwater flies since I didn’t have any experience making them. Because of type of ocean that we were staying, I couldn’t use these flies; however, they became my favorite collectables sitting in my cabinet. Thanks to my friend.

We become a superman when we are fishing

In near -15 C, Soboru and I were out fishing in pond to catch rainbow all day. Every time it amazes me that we could stay out in that cold weather that long. Since I started fishing, especially fishing in winter, I became much weather proof: I don’t often catch cold any more.

Saturday

Why do I like all the gifts that are fish?

Why do I like all the gifts that are fish? This was given to me by my friend in China and I just love this two fishes hanging together as one.
