Fishing with life long friend

Yoonho and I've come a long way as anglers and friends.  We had been fishing together since 2008. Not very long time considering we've been friends for 25 years.  I am truly grateful the fact that we are able to maintain our friendship regardless of our differences.  Particularly in politics. ;p

If I have to pick only one person to fish with, I wouldn't hesitate to pick Yoonho.  The fact that we can be as silly and goofy as we can be together while we are fishing makes him the perfect candidate. All the  cheesy acts and comments to one another makes any of our trip together something to cherish even long after the trip.  As I write this blog, things we've said and did (too embarrassed to mention in public) brings a smile to my face.

 Yoonho was able to take a day off from the family and able to fish with me on a small stream.

 Off the bet, Yoonho landed a hefty brown.

 Made our way up to the top watching each other fishing thinking how I am so much better than Yoonho...

 It was very intriguing the fact we've caught unusually big browns for this stream.

 Yoonho thoroughly enjoyed the hiking aspect of the fishing.

It is very disappointing the fact that you now live out of the state.  However, through this trip, I can see our friendship growing stronger and more maturely. Good to fishing with you again and hope to see you and your lovely family soon. 

Entertainment. With some salt on it...

I had a pleasure to entertain Vanessa, Diana, Jay and John during their visit to NY with some boating and fishing. We could't have ask for better weather for both days.

 Seeing smiles on their faces made the trip so much more enjoyable...

 With a brief instruction how to fish with the baitcasting setup, they were on a roll with many species the bay had to offer.

Seeing them growing to be fine young ladies, I had a glimpse of what it is to be a parent. Vanessa and Diana, you guys ROCK!My men Jay and John ready to show their fishing skills.

Of course, Jay couldn't let this one go without feeling every square inches of the fish...

Yoonho, you must be a proud father as you and Hyunah did an amazing job with the boys. I had a blast with you guys!!!

Building of Wooden Kayak

It's been about 5 years since I've built the last wooden kayak.  I've purchased this kayak kit for wonjae a few years back but never got around to get at it until this weekend (Sorry wonjae!).  I guess I got too tired of looking at the unopened box lying around in my garage.

The kit is manufactured by Chesapeake Light Craft co.  You will need to add some of your elbow grease and about 100+ hours, but the process of building a kayak can be very therapeutic.    Tedious and repetitive nature of the boat building process will let you forget about everything.

When I first built the kayak shown above, wasn't sure if it would float so I had one of my less favorite adventurous friend take it for spin and the result was astonishing.  Not only it floated but had a true-tracking performance as well.  

I will continue to put up progress of making this kayak and yes wonjae, you will get to use it once it's done!

Boating with the younger son.

Took my younger son out to DaeHoMan for some bass fishing and boating.  We cruised around in the small rental boat with the trolling motor and talked some.  We did find some bass but really small ones but that was enough for Jay to have fun.  It will soon be good bass fishing and when it is, I'll be there with my sons.

Want to go to the motherland?

A number of people I've met since coming to Asia have voiced wanting to fish in the States, but the planning of the whole thing seems really daunting. If you'r looking to go to Montana this service looks really killer. Probably doesn't translate to cheap. But on the bright side it looks like it's for those that want more of an adventure focus than the rich guy lodge experience. pretty cool.

Catskills exploration

Patty spent more time fishing in NJ than any other places.  However, she always enjoyed fishing in Catskills.  After our last trip to our favorite NJ creek, she wanted to fish in the Catskills, she also wanted to try a place she hasn't fished before.  I thought neversink gorge will be a perfect place to reintroduce her to what the Catskills has to offer to an angler.

 She thoroughly enjoyed what the unique area had to offer.

 I've always wanted to try out this small brook that feeds into the river which is known to be the habitat for brook trouts.  I've packed 6 feet 1wt rod for the occasion and I was glad that I did as the brook contained many eager trouts.

 Since the brook is situated in the gorge, water ran fast on steep terrain.

 Patty had no problem hiking through rough terrain and rewarded with many beautiful colored brookies.

I am very proud of Patty's ability to learn the sport and also feel very lucky to have a wife who can enjoy my passion along side of me.
