The day Patty became a true angler

Today was the last day of our two weeks epic fishing trip.  I been working hard to get Patty into the sport and finally it paid off.  She said that fly fishing will be her main hobby from now on.  We are so exhausted but excited at the same time the fact that we found a hobby that we will be enjoying years to come.  I am so looking forward to new memories we will be accumulating over the years...

They call this place "God's Country" for reason.  It has been three days here and everywhere we go "wow" is the only word we can use to describe the beauty of it.   I will organize the details of the trip and post it once I return as it took me an half hour just to post the picture below.

At this moment, I imagine Charles and Patty somewhere in Yellowstone leaving foot prints. I can't wait to hear from them on the trip and see the photos.  Safe travels.

The Majestic Yosemite.

I spent a couple of days with the family in Yosemite National Park.  The quote from Mr. Ansel Adams sums it up perfectly.  I fished the Merced River for an hour, but the smaller south fork.  I had my bare bone essentials, a Tenkara rod and some flies - turns out, that is basically all I need. I had no wading shoes or waders, so I just gently walked around in my shorts & Hanes wading shoes.  To stand around trees that are 300 feet tall and 1500 years old makes you feel kind of small but it also makes you think.  I was last here when I was my kid's age, and if my kids have children, I hope they bring them here.  It is entirely, a majestic place.

My 2nd Merced River Trip:

I went to Merced River near Yosemite past weekend with Stephen Lee who I met through Orvis seminar series. Morning was slow due to high cold water, but we were able to see some
rainbows after moving to lower section of the river. It was my first fly trip this year and I had a wonderful time. Thanks Stephen for driving, lunch, and sharing great fishing locations.

My first Steelhead fishing:

Orvis had a free steelhead class at American river in Sacramento couple of weeks ago. Many anglers came all of the area to learn how to go after steelhead. Two instructors came from two different stores and showed how to approach and also did some demonstration of casting two hands. I suppose like me many of them have some experience with single hand fly fishing, but first time for two hands. The weather was slightly over casted and water level was fair. I didn't see any that day, but I was able to catch one a week later.

Good old neighborhood creek:

Past Saturday, I visited the creek near by my house. Maybe becasue of the cooler weather, much smaller ones are the one that was greeting me. When I was at the only deeper part of the wather in the creek, I was able to finally meet slightly larger one with the nymphing.
