About 40 minutes from where G.F., Charles, and I were fishing last September. Then there was way too much water and precipitation for September. Now it's hell on Earth. Time will tell how bad this summer will effect the fishing. 

Big fish all around.

Here are some bigger fish recently from Spider Fly Shop. (http://www.spiderfly.co.kr/) They seem to specialize in two handed rods and gear and usually after bigger fish in bigger waters. Nice to see some good sized fish from South Korean waters.

Big Fish in a Small Creek.

I was looking through the Freestone fly shop site (http://www.freestone.co.kr/) with whom our friends Mr. Bae, Dr. Shin, and Prof. Huh recently went fishing with. Once in a while the small streams will produce a big fish and this one that she's holding fits that description well. Nice fish in a small mountain creek. Seems like our friends did pretty good that day as well.

okay – we got some snow.

We got dumped on last night in the Midwest. Had to do a little digging out this morning to get to the car. If you live in Chicago area now, but have ever lived in other places where it gets snow, you know what an awsome job the cities do of snow clean up. The streets are all clean and driving was no problem by morning. You have to appreciate that.

휴-- 삽질은 힘들다… 일단 그냥 당장 빠져나갈 구멍만 파면 된다. 얼마전 서울에서 제설잡업을 보니, 엉망이였다. 물론 눈이 자주 오는곳이 아니라서 그런것은 이해하지만, 그래도 서울 같은 큰 국제도시는 좀더 잘할것 같았는데, 운전자들이 고생 많이 했다.

"About 10 p.m. Friday, thousands of red-winged blackbirds began falling out of the sky over a town about 35 miles northeast of Little Rock. They landed on roofs, roads, front lawns and backyards, turning the ground nearly black and scaring anyone who happened to be outside.

Samples have been sent to labs, one in Arkansas, the other in Wisconsin. For now, state officials are speculating that the birds may have died as a result of stress, startled by fireworks in the area, or perhaps by lightning. But, Mr. Stephens acknowledged that the cause may never be known.

One thing is almost certain: the bird drop is not related to the 83,000 fish that died a few days earlier in the western part of the state, the biggest fish kill in Arkansas that anyone can remember. In that case, the victims were almost all drum, and almost all younger ones. That suggests the culprit was disease."

Checklist

I really didn't want to post this incident which happened to me a day before the previous posted fishing trip to KLG but I guess I have to.... just to remind myself not to do it again.

I don't know about you guys but I never had a checklist to go fishing. Maybe because I get too excited and prepare myself way ahead of the time so I guess I never had a need to have the checklist. But something awful happened this Friday.

I knew I had to take the Friday off since the temperature will be up around 50 degree. I get to fish in one layer of fleece instead of 5 and other good things about fishing came to my mind so I decided to play hooky to go fishing at KLG.

After reading a few years old articles about what might be hatching, I've been tying some early stone fly, midges, and a few other for this trip, organized it, and placed it on my tying desk for me to take in the morning.

It was a beautiful morning with the sun shining ever so bright. Picked up some 김밥, and coffee and off I went. Usually takes about an hour to get to KLG but decided to drive a little slower just to savor spring like air.

Once I pulled in to the parking lot at KLG. My heart dropped to right around where my butt is located. "Oh Shit, my flies". Yes I left my fly box on top of my tying desk.

I never thought that my brain was capable of thinking the following things within 1/10th of second:
1. Is there a fly shop near by?
2. No, It's a farmland?
3. Maybe I can buy some fly from other anglers
4. so take the wallet with you
5. Should I go home and get it?
6. Wait a minute, what about the soft hackle and prince nymph you had placed in vest fly patch?

Yes!!!! I found the prince nymph but not the soft hackle off of my vest patch. I was confident that I will run into some other anglers to borrow or purchase some flies as it wasn't unusual for me to run into at least 3 or 4 anglers even on Fridays.

But, just in case, took my sweet time inspecting all by leaders and tippets are in perfect condition as I couldn't afford to loose this one and only fly for the trip.

I only found the spot with no overcast of any tree branches and when I did get snags on submerged objects or occasional tree branches, I GOT MY FLY BACK! I just couldn't believe that no one I mean no one came out to fish that Friday.

I did enjoy serenity but never missed someone this badly before. Didn't take that long before the river claimed my one and only fly. (Been fishing 2 1/2 hours). Waited an hour for other anglers to show up but had to leave.

Yes, I did manage to get a couple of rainbow but lesson learned! Have your checklist and have an emergency fishing kit in your car.

that o-shit feeling…

This year I manage to break two rods, both towards the tip. I broke one tugging it too hard when I had a fly stuck on a tree and the other one was hanging out the window of my car when I pulled the window up. Both left me with that o-shit feeling. I really hate that o-shit feeling. Since my rods are not that expensive (and don't have lifetime warranty), I had to put both of them together with a needle, crazy glue, and some thread. Hopefully the tip won’t break off when I catch the fish.

I hate them & they are actually keeping me away from the fishing. I am covered in repellant, have a net over my head, but nothing will stop these beasts. I must say, they are highly effective – small, leaves a lasting itch, and psychologically intimidating. Bastards, damn them. I need a boat...
