Jonathan & Dr. Shin's Mongolia trip

Jonathan, Dr. Shin and a few other friends took that long awaited trip to Mongolia.  I am still waiting to see them to hear all about the trip.  I called up Jonathan to ask-  what's it like when the taimen takes the fly? and he responded "you forget that it's a fish at the end of the line for a minute - it feels like you have an animal that takes it".  Looks like an epic trip.

From Mongolia - SH Yoo

My friend SH Yoo sent a few pics from Mongolia.  All he said was, "it's cold here, at winter's doorsteps" and sent these three photos.  Hope he hooks into one of them giant taimen, as he usually does.  Thanks for the photos SH Yoo.

A letter from Ulan Bator.

I received a warm letter from my friend S.H. Yoo from Mongolia. He just returned from his early winter float trip. I like the fact that weather can push back trips in Mongolia for 2-3 days, waiting for the temperature to rise, and water levels to go down. In our world of exacting schedules, it's refreshing. He spoke a lot about the friendship that builds up over the years with the guide & navigator, even with limited communication in words. Thank you S.H., I look forward to seeing you again soon in Korea or China, but preferably in Mongolia.

a letter from a friend in Mongolia...

I just received a trip report from my friend SH Yoo, along with the photos from his recent trip to Eg valley in Mongolia. They started the drift approximately 40km above camp and scheduled a 3 day drift to base camp. They expected higher waters from the melting snow, but from the looks of it, seems they managed well. Finding Taimen that are over 1 meter long drifting big furry mouse patterns must be an experience of a lifetime. All in all, SH found 4 Taimen that are over the 1 meter mark, and a few smaller ones. SH is expected to be in Seoul in early July and I am looking forward to fishing the creeks here with him, and to hear the stories about wild Mongolia.
