Well, the storm got the best of us. Planes cancelled & depression sets in. It was a long shot but stepped out towards Wisconsin waters only to get skunked. It was a long shot anyways. Listening to blues music, drinking since mid day, just waiting for the winter days to pass.

The barbarous Northeaster is to blame for everything these days, but I still like snow in winter. (yeah we never had 1m + snowfall in Korea)

I have an upcoming fishing trip. We have one of the worst snow storms here. I've been tracking the weather like a meteorologist on a mission to save the world. Bags are all packed, flies ready to catch fish, and just sitting here staring out the window like a lost soul. Go away…go away…please go away. Damn you snow storm...

Head Mounts...

I've never really been hunting (although I'd like to), and I’ve never been a fan of animal head mounted on walls. Since I got into fishing, I’ve often considered mounting fish on my walls…which I guess is not that different from mounting animal heads. Being a designer, I looked into the faux head mounts that are funky yet has a sense of style. Here are some that I found on line.

$600K fish.

They caught this fish in China (Chinese Bahaba) which parts of the fish are highly praised for use in certain traditional medicine. The fish weighed nearly 70 kg and was over 1.5 meters long. It’s reported that they held an auction for this fish and was sold at whopping $600,000USD! Maybe the medicine helps you catch more fish... Amazing.

This is the largest rainbow trout I've ever caught in my life. A 60cm, wild one. It was a snowy day in Ganwondo, two weeks before Ksanchun made his record. My 5-weight rod felt like a Sage #000.

Ksanchun in action

Driving Mr. Ksanchun

ksanchun and I decided to have a short trip to Giwachun (in Gangwon Province) after a long break. A total 9-hour trip, but it only provided us 3 hours of fishing since the traveling back and forth took us 6 hours - yikes.

Regardless of record-breaking snowfall this year, water level is still low and lots of small streams are frozen. We managed to find a unfrozen, pond-like stream in the middle of a small village. There were fish farms nearby and thus water was warm enough for fish to be active.

ksanchun viciously started throwing lines in the water (it's been a while since his last fishing trip), and to my surprise caught 2 mid-to-large rainbows in a row!

I was a driver and a photographer for ksanchun that day.

CarpFly Seoul…urban angling at its best.

I followed the link from the video Charles loaded to find Korea’s largest and most active carp & mullet fly angling club. This seems like a pretty hard core group of carp hunters, diverse members & species they hunt alike. Great photos and lots of information on carp angling in the capital of South Korea.
