New Hobby

I've always wanted to learn how to shoot traditional bow so over the weekend, Patty and I went to a local archery store to check out the options.  It turns out they also offer a lesson before you buy the equipment. After watching other students, Patty blurts out "I could do that!".  So the whole thing begins...

It turns out that Patty has a knack in archery.  After an hour of lesson, she impressed everyone in the range including myself.
After 4 hours in the shop, we walked away with her brand new compound bow (I call it the silent pink) and my recurve bow.
Immediately, I've setup a home shooting range in our garage and started practicing.
This is patty's group from 15 yards.
 Zombie apocalypse?  Bring it on!
Although non-fishing related, just glad that we've found something to do together...

Family in Eastern Korea

The family did a little fishing and a lot of eating out in Eastern Korea.

Family vs Passion

Recently, I had a pleasure to host both Patty and my family at the upstate cabin on two different weekends.  I didn't realize how difficult it is to create an itinerary for a large group of people as my typical itinerary for a weekend since I've entered the world of angling doesn't involve anyone but myself and occasionally Patty...

I think that my fairly new found life style (angling, particularly fly fishing) is a blessing as it is a perfect way to enjoy outdoor which was my passion for as long as I can remember.  I guess it can also be a curse as I've been labeled as "loner" amongst my friends and family as I spend more time chasing trouts

Through recent trips, I was hoping to make up for lack of my attention to my family. I tried very hard planning this trip to let my families know that I still exist and my love for fishing them is still strong.

The strong family bond was felt in the deep forest of the Adirondack, along the hiking trail which runs parallel to a creek ultimately leads to a beautiful waterfalls which seemed damn fishy as I hoped during my planning of this trip for me EVERYONE.

Arrived at the falls just in time for everyone who needed to cool off and have a lunch in presence of awesome waterfall for at least an half hour.
The half hour is all I had to explore this creek so while my family is having a lunch break, I managed to setup my rod in record time.  "Focus!" said Patty while gave me a stink eye as I was rigging the rod. She already knew what I was up to.  Said to myself "I am honey, I am so focused"

My tyranny was rewarded with beautiful, wild, acrobatic and hungry creatures.  It was the shortest fishing trip I've ever had but I've enjoyed every second of it.
For the rest of the trip, I didn't get to fish.  However, I had a chance to really enjoy my family's company. A little girl (Noelle) in above picture is my niece.  After our long canoe trip, Noelle whispered in my ear to tell me how she enjoyed being with me.  Made me feel guilty but soon realized that I can help her become youngest fly fisher.  Hmmmm....

I guess with all the busy schedule I've had, I forgot how much I love spending time with my family. This trip definitely made me realize there is nothing more important than pursuing love for your family and your passion.

Sunday

Entertainment. With some salt on it...

I had a pleasure to entertain Vanessa, Diana, Jay and John during their visit to NY with some boating and fishing. We could't have ask for better weather for both days.

Seeing smiles on their faces made the trip so much more enjoyable...
With a brief instruction how to fish with the baitcasting setup, they were on a roll with many species the bay had to offer.

Seeing them growing to be fine young ladies, I had a glimpse of what it is to be a parent. Vanessa and Diana, you guys ROCK!My men Jay and John ready to show their fishing skills.

John's first catch! The dog fish gave him a hell of fight.  A little bit of blood added more excitement.

Of course, Jay couldn't let this one go without feeling every square inches of the fish...

John caught the biggest fluke of the day. A proud trophy shot!

Yoonho, you must be a proud father as you and Hyunah did an amazing job with the boys. I had a blast with you guys!!!

Tuesday

Boating with the younger son.

Took my younger son out to DaeHoMan for some bass fishing and boating.  We cruised around in the small rental boat with the trolling motor and talked some.  We did find some bass but really small ones but that was enough for Jay to have fun.  It will soon be good bass fishing and when it is, I'll be there with my sons.

Friday

The day Patty became a true angler

Today was the last day of our two weeks epic fishing trip.  I been working hard to get Patty into the sport and finally it paid off.  She said that fly fishing will be her main hobby from now on.  We are so exhausted but excited at the same time the fact that we found a hobby that we will be enjoying years to come.  I am so looking forward to new memories we will be accumulating over the years...
