Getting to Malaysia.

I have heard of the good fishing in Malaysia, but only recently started to look into a trip there. I also know that there’s a whole lot more to do in Malaysia other than fishing (such as eat delicious Malaysian food!) but I want to schedule a fly fishing trip to this wonderful land. There’s some information on line about fly fishing in Malaysia, but hooking up with a local angler will be best. Here are some photos I found online of fishing in Malaysia. For now, I don’t know a lot about where to go or how to plan this trip, I just know I want to go there next year.

Fly casting practicing

"Fly casting is an art!!" as Joan wulff said.
Because it is an art, it takes time to develop!!
I practiced fly casting about every weekend since two monthe ago.
And the average distance is about 25M with 5-weight rod.
How about you guys?

Now that's a Taimen

Damn. That's a big trout.

Wednesday

Chicks & Bikes

Has nothing to do with fishing, but we like these photos anyways.

winter… time to get out the vice.

Rivers and creeks are finally starting to freeze shut, the winds are too cold to bear, and we are only left with memories of what it feels like to have a fish at the end of the line. Time to get that vice out and start tying some flies for next year. Not surprisingly, as I go into my second winter of fly tying, I have a much better sense of what flies I need most, don’t use, and are good flies to give away as presents (same flies as the ones I don’t use). I’ve pretty much neglected the vice all summer & fall, so I’ll need a little warm up. I see a whole lot of elk hair caddis on the horizon.

Bamboo within reach.

Element Bamboo Rods (http://www.elementflyfishing.com/) makes owning a quality bamboo rod within reach. I am considering buying one to check out.

Rainbow Fly Fishing Club 2010 Calendars

I stopped by my favorite fly shop in Seoul and picked up my 2010 Rainbow calendar. It’s very nice. I got one for you too Charles.

Tuesday

I thought of taking a scooter for fly fishing

I have a 1965 Lambretta which is the one of the coolest Italian vintage scooters. Before I started my fly fishing, I used to ride more often around town. After a few months of ignorance, I took it for spin today. During the ride, I thought what if I take this bike and go fly fishing along the creek. Often, the parking along the creek is difficult task, so having a scooter will be very convenient transportation. I will need custom rack that could hold the rod and a large sack.

Sunday

I love this photo.

I still love to see this photo of Mr. David Hayes showing off his big catch with his granddaughter and her Barbie fishing pole. Very cute.

Saturday

Korean fresh-water cyber experience

I ran across this great web site to learn about Korean fresh water fish, fish environment & ecology. There are sections for Endemic Species, Protected Species, Endangered Species, and Natural Monuments. There’s also a section called Fish World for Children, which helps kids learn about fish & life cycles through games & activities. You can view site in 4 different languages. (http://www.fish.go.kr ).

Visit to a local trout pond

My friend Soboro & I visited a local trout pond this afternoon, located an hour outside of eastern Seoul. The day was a mild day for December in Korea, and we met a lot of familiar faces there. Soboro ended up catching the most trout this day, which was fun to watch. A lot of people come here to practice casting during the winter months, and catch big farm raised trout. They have a few trout in there they call “super trout”, which means they are the ones that’s in the 80-90cm size range. The trout pond had buildings in the shape of fruits (we sat inside a watermelon!) and there’s even a small section to buy tackle if you forgot to bring something. Everyone caught plenty of fish but more importantly it was a good time to catch up with friends and share stories about winter fishing to come.

Thursday

Wow. Combat fishing is insane.
